Two young Yorkshire heroes are on the lookout for more unsung heroes!
Yorkshire fundraising stars, nine year old Captain Tobias Weller and eight year old Lennie Street are helping Gulliver’s Valley to launch a search for people who have gone above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic so they can get the special recognition they deserve.
The duo, both students at Paces, a leading specialist centre for children with Cerebral Palsy and other motor disorders, have raised thousands of pounds during the COVID-19 pandemic and are now working with the theme park in Rotherham to launch a new initiative to acknowledge others who have stepped up over the last few weeks to help their loved ones and wider communities.
They are asking people to nominate anyone they know, children or adults, who should be recognised for their efforts and 50 people will be drawn from the entries and, along with Captain Tobias and Lennie, rewarded with a family ticket to the new theme park when it officially opens.
Julie Dalton, managing director of Gulliver’s Theme Park Resorts, said: “We are thrilled that Captain Tobias and Lennie have joined us to launch this search and we are looking forward to welcoming them both to the park with their families. They have both been wonderful in their fundraising efforts over the past few months and their drive and determination has inspired us all.
“It has been a very testing time for everyone up and down the country but we know there are some people who have really shone with the efforts they have made to help other people during these challenges. We wanted to give these unsung heroes a thank you from everyone at Gulliver’s Valley so they know how much they are appreciated and valued.”
Tobias, from Sheffield, said: “It has been fantastic doing my marathon challenge in lockdown and I loved seeing everybody come out and clap and cheer me on through my ginormous challenge. I have been getting stronger and stronger every day and I was chuffed to bits when I saw how much money I have raised. Now I would love to know what everybody else has been doing. If you know somebody else who has gone above and beyond during lockdown, be sure to nominate them as an unsung hero and give them a chance to win a fantastic day out, I can’t wait to visit the theme park…..it looks awesome!”
Lennie, from Leeds, said: “I love playing my piano every single day and seeing people enjoy my songs made me very happy! It’s brilliant that I have been able to raise so much money for my school Paces, and I will continue to play my piano every day. I would love to hear what other people have been doing in lockdown so please nominate them as an unsung hero and they could win a wonderful day out at the theme park!”
Gulliver’s Valley Theme Park, aimed for children aged between two and 13, will be home to a host of rides and attractions across several themed areas.
Julie added, “If you know someone special who has really gone over and above to help, please let us know and we will select the most deserving so we can give them a treat and hopefully help create some amazing family memories for them to treasure. It could be someone in the NHS who has been separated from their own family to help their patients, a carer who has been looking after their care home residents, a delivery driver who has been out and about day and night making sure people get important things they need or shop workers who have done so much to make sure we have been fed during this time. But also, not forgetting those special children who have perhaps faced more than most in this period and would enjoy some valuable family fun.”
