Rotherham Mayor takes a tour of new Gulliver’s Valley
The Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Jenny Andrews, has enjoyed a special visit to Gulliver’s Valley during its first week of opening.
Councillor Andrews was welcomed to the multi-million pound resort in Rotherham, which only opened last week, to have a tour around the new development which is set to bring over 120 jobs to the area in the first phase.
The Mayor was joined by Mayoress Councillor Jeannette Mallinder as well as Councillor Sarah Allen, Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener Communities, and Councillor Denise Lelliott, Cabinet Member for Jobs and Local Economy, to see the park now it is open for the public to enjoy.
Julie Dalton, managing director of Gulliver’s Theme Park Resorts, said: “From day one the local community and all the various partners involved, including Rotherham Council, have been so supportive of Gulliver’s Valley as they could see the potential it would bring to the area and local economy.
“The coronavirus pandemic has been an added challenge, but we are so pleased to finally be in the position where we can open our doors safely. Our first week has been a real success and we have received some wonderful comments from our guests. We were thrilled to be able to welcome the Mayor, Councillor Andrews, and her colleague for a special tour of the park so they could join in the excitement and see for themselves how we have brought our original vision to life.”
The Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Jenny Andrews, said: “It’s been wonderful to visit the brand new Gulliver’s Valley Resort and take a tour around the large theme park. The resort is a magical family adventure filled with a great selection of rides and attractions from Smugglers Wharf to the Lost World of the Living Dinosaurs. There’s lots of fun and excitement in store for all the family to enjoy.
“We welcome the resort to the borough and the regeneration it has brought to the old Pit House West site. The Council’s aim is to continue to create the right conditions for growth, giving confidence to businesses looking to invest in new developments. The economic opportunities that it has brought to the local community will make it a fantastic asset for the people of Rotherham.”
Gulliver’s Valley, which was forced to postpone its planned opening earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, has introduced a number of additional safety measures to adhere to Government guidelines and to keep guests safe. These include temperature checks on arrival, mandatory advanced booking, contactless entry, social distancing measures, a food pre-ordering system and all guests over the age of three needing to wear face coverings on rides. The park is also operating on a limited capacity to meet social distancing requirements.
Aimed at children between the ages of two and 13-years-old, the new Gulliver’s Valley houses more than 30 rides and attractions, including an Apache Falls ride, full-size diggers, the Ghostly Galleon pirate ship and a Lost Jurassic World area. Accommodation options are also available, including Unicorn and Princess Suites alongside Western Cabins and Lost World Lodges, with sleepover adventures on offer.
Gulliver’s Valley Resort is situated next to Rother Valley Country Park and Waleswood Caravan and Camping Park.
Sheffield City Region provided £1.5m of funding towards the Gulliver’s Valley project.
