500 runners are set to take part in a colourful fun run for a good cause at Gulliver’s Valley.

The Rotherham theme park resort will host the unique race, which follows a route of approximately one mile taking in the park’s rides and attractions, on Sunday, July 16.

The colourful event will raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which supports children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and their families across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.

A ticket combining the fun run and theme park entry is just £15 per person, with £5 of each entry being donated directly to Bluebell Wood. For every participant, Gulliver’s Valley will also donate one theme park ticket to a local children’s charity, supporting young people in Rotherham.

Participants are invited to run, walk or toddle to the finish line at the end of the one-mile race route. All participants will receive a fun run medal and amazing prices are up for grabs for the best fancy dress costume.

A place in the race must be booked online, with 500 places available. Registration and runner number collection takes place at 9am, with the race beginning at 9.45am. Rides and attractions open from 10.30am.

Those not taking part can still purchase theme park tickets (entry from 10.30am) at the standard rate.

Andy Flowers, resort manager at Gulliver’s Valley, said: “We can’t wait to host our annual fun run in aid of Bluebell Wood to support the crucial work they do.

“The run will follow a short course so is suitable for the whole family, whether you’re an experienced speedster or just want to do some exercise for a worthy cause.”

Ruth Wallbank, regional fundraising manager at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We’re thrilled to again partner with Gulliver’s Valley for their annual fun run which is always a fantastic day.

“Events like this are so important to help raise much needed funds so we can continue supporting families in incredibly difficult times. It costs over £5 million a year to keep our doors open and we only receive around 15% government funding. The rest comes from community spirited supporters like you and we hope to see a great turnout at the fun run.”
