Charity of the Year winners, City Hearts UK receive a £3,000 prize donation and become the Chamber’s Charity of the Year.

The charity, which restore the lives of vulnerable and exploited men, women and children, were awarded with the Charity of the Year award at the 2017 Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards and received a donation of £3000 prize money.

The award sponsor Fortem, who were part of the judging panel for this category said; “The number of volunteers that support charity work in our communities is to be applauded. It’s so difficult to pick a “Charity of the Year” when you are presented with such deserving winners, but when 773 words move you to tears, you know you have a winner!

“Enhancing life chances is at the heart of what we do at Fortem and this is certainly the same at City Hearts UK.”

Kirsty Wilson, South Yorkshire Regional Manager of City Hearts UK said, “We are very thankful and honoured to be
chosen as charity of the year. The £3,000 donation from Fortem and the Chamber will help us to provide a much needed service for trafficked children that have come into the area.”

In the past 12 months City Hearts has housed over 245 women and men rescued from modern day slavery in the UK, alongside 155 children who have been directly affected by trafficking and modern slavery. In South Yorkshire City Hearts have increasingly seen a lot of children being rescued from modern slavery. There was an increasing demand to give these children back their potential, after them being kept as
slaves.

City Hearts started a child therapeutic programme in the summer of 2016 to provide children a safe place to play, a
safe place to show their emotions and just to be a child.
