Awards showcase pride in the NHS
It was an evening of celebration and elation at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s annual Proud Awards last week.
This year saw the return of the main event after two years of virtual award ceremonies. With Covid-19 precautions in place, staff were able to celebrate each other’s achievements and honour those who have gone above and beyond to help deliver outstanding patient care.
The awards were also an opportunity to applaud colleagues’ long service, with special recognition for those who have reached the 40-year milestone.
This year there were three new categories. Each month, the Interim Chief Executive of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Richard Jenkins, announces the winners of the Excellence Awards for the individual, team and public categories, with nominations coming from colleagues and public feedback. The winners of these awards are automatically shortlisted, with an overall winner for each category announced at the Proud Awards ceremony.
Held at Magna, the awards were hosted by Heart FM’s Dixie. Entertainment came courtesy of the Trust’s community midwife Jade Elvin, who got the audience in the mood to celebrate with her rendition of ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’.
Dr Richard Jenkins said: “It was wonderful to be able to celebrate colleagues with a live event this year. It’s always an honour to present awards to such deserving teams and individuals and have the opportunity to thank them for their hard work and dedication.”
The ceremony provided an opportunity for the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity to distribute raffle prizes alongside the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Tajamal Khan, who has chosen to support the charity during his mayoral year.
Rachael Dawes, the charity’s new Head of Fundraising, also showcased upcoming fundraising events, which include a skydive in September, a fire walk in November, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in May 2023 – and much more!
The awards were supported by eight amazing sponsors – Meadowhall, Dunelm, Konica Minolta, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, Meditech, Veolia, Imprivata and Harvest Healthcare.
Rachael said: “It was an incredible night to celebrate and thank our hard working NHS colleagues for all they do. It felt extra special to be able to do this in person too and thanks to our amazing event sponsors we were able to make it memorable for all those nominated. We can’t thank them enough for their support.”
The Proud Awards will be back in 2023 and the charity is already looking for event sponsors to ensure it is bigger and better than ever before.
