Sheffield based IT and data security experts, TecSec, has become ISO 27001:2013 certified, demonstrating a commitment to keeping its data – and that of its clients – safe.

The ISO 27001:2013 is the highest internationally recognised qualification available to businesses in relation to their IT security systems. The company completed a rigorous assessment process earlier this year through the UKAS assessment board.

After successfully meeting all requirements of the standard set by the International Organisation for Standardisation, TecSec was awarded the certification in June.

The standard specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system, examining all aspects of an organisation.

As a requirement of the ISO 27001:2013, businesses must have a dedicated member of staff to develop and implement polices relating to the company’s IT security systems. TecSec has recently promoted existing member of staff, Leila Beresford into this role after she played an integral part in the assessment. Technical Director, Phill McManus, explains:

“In her capacity as marketing officer, Leila built up a huge amount of knowledge about the company’s systems and the data we hold, and more specifically around the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). She is the ideal person to take on the management of our data security policies in her new remit as our Marketing and Administration Manager.”

TecSec specialises in providing IT Support services, helping clients to develop and maintain robust information security systems to protect themselves from cyber-crime and to ensure compliance with the GDPR. Phil continues,
“We are delighted to have secured this important qualification which demonstrates our commitment to the very highest standards of information security and assurance. Having the ISO 27001:2013 certification means that our clients can be confident that we treat their data with the ultimate level of security. It has also equipped us with a huge amount of knowledge gained from the assessment process, which we can now pass on to our own clients.”
