Let’s face it, our body is the only place we have to live so it’s important to look after it, however making sure your body looks and feels its best can be hard to achieve, especially with our modern busy lifestyles and all the temptations of quick, highly processed convenience foods.

Getting the right proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals, hydration and fibre is essential to overall good health but even the most careful eater can find it extremely difficult to get the balance right.

This is why at Mission Nutrition our Philosophy is based on promoting balanced nutrition through a combination of healthy whole foods and the use of high-quality supplements to make it easy to meet your body’s daily needs.  Add in regular exercise and you have the recipe for a healthier, happier, longer life.

The Power 3

Protein

Macronutrients are body’s 3 “power fuel” nutrient groups, the first of which is Protein. Protein is vital to pretty much every cell in the body. Your body uses it to manufacture molecules, such as hormones and enzymes, and to support and build muscle. Protein is also essential for helping keep hunger at bay and increasing metabolic rate.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are often seen as the villain as we often only think of them as the “bad” white/beige refined type such as bread, pasta, potatoes etc however, Carbs are an essential fuel source and like proteins are another important macronutrient. It’s super important to include Healthy carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables every day in our diets to fuel our daily activities.  We recommend around 40% of your daily calories come from healthy carbohydrates.

Fat

Again, fat is also often seen as the bad guy however, as with Carbs your body requires small amounts of this third macronutrient, in order to function properly. However, it’s sensible to avoid saturated or trans fats such as in fried foods and baked goods and ensure that you are getting your daily fat requirements from the healthy sort- fish, nuts, olive oil and avocados. Be mindful however, Fats are a very concentrated source of calories, which is why we recommend that you limit your intake to no more than 30% of your daily calories

Micronutrients & The Back Room Crew

In addition to the big rocks, it’s important to pay attention to little things – micronutrients, vitamins & minerals, Micronutrients, often referred to as vitamins and minerals, are vital to healthy development, disease prevention, and wellbeing. With the exception of vitamin D, which we get from sunlight, micronutrients are not produced in the body and must be derived from the diet

It’s important to also include phytonutrients (plant nutrients) to your diet – making sure to “eat the rainbow” – and vital to good overall health is fibre, not only essential for healthy digestion and weight control, a healthy gut contributes to a strong immune system, improved heart health, brain health, improved mood, healthy sleep, and effective digestion, and it may help prevent some cancers and autoimmune diseases.

The human body is 70% water, so it’s no surprise that we need to stay hydrated to stay healthy.  Water transports nutrients to cells and gets rid of waste products. It helps control body temperature and lubricate joints, organs, and tissues. Most of the chemical reactions in the body take place in water, too. The general recommendation for fluids is about eight 8-oz (240mL) glasses a day.

And finally, maintaining a healthy weight.  “Calories in vs Calories out”

If the calories you eat are balanced with the calories we burn, our weight should stay stable, if you create a calorie deficit then you will lose weight, eat more calories than your body burns, and you’ll gain weight. Sounds simple, yes? So why do so many people struggle with maintaining a healthy weight? The problem is it’s super easy to eat more calories than you need and not all calories are equal in their nutrient density, so calorie counting alone often doesn’t work.

Not getting the calorie balance right is when the scale will tip towards weight gain or people end up feeling restricted, tired, and hungry and ultimately give up.

At mission Nutrition we provide simple to follow and simple to implement weight management plans that can be used longer to give proven results.

So leading a healthier happier life doesn’t need to be complicated or stressful with the help of Mission Nutrition, you CAN be a healthier happier version of you.
