A community-spirited Barnsley business has raised an impressive £1,200 for Bluebell Wood as colleagues surfed, bounced and danced their way through a day of family fun.

Billington Holdings, a Barnsley based group of steel and engineering companies operating across the UK, held their annual charity day in September, raising a grand total of £2,400 to be split between Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Prostate Cancer UK.

The Wombwell event saw colleagues and their families enjoy a bouncy castle, a surf simulator, live music and much more. The firm raised the funds through a raffle with a host of top prizes donated by the company and other local suppliers, with a signed England Euro 96 shirt fetching a whopping £500.

Rachel Batty, Marketing Manager at Billington Holdings, said: “Through the Billington Charity Foundation we support both local and national charities as well as local community activities.

“We always ask our staff which charities they’d like to support and Bluebell Wood was a very popular choice this year.

“We are so pleased that through our charity event this year we could support and raise money for such an important local charity.”

Jason Gossop, Regional Fundraiser for Bluebell Wood, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Billington Holdings and everyone who helped raise such a fantastic sum for Bluebell Wood and Prostate Cancer UK.

“The past 18 months have been very challenging from a fundraising perspective, so the support of community-spirited local businesses like Billington is more important than ever.

“Every penny they have will help us to be a light in the darkness for local children and families who are facing some of the toughest times imaginable.”

There are many ways local businesses can support Bluebell Wood’s life changing work. From nominating Bluebell Wood as ‘charity of the year’ or taking on one of its exciting events to corporate volunteering or joining its 365 Business Club, there are options to suit everyone.

Bluebell Wood’s 365 Business Club, which companies can join from just £1 a day, gives members the chance to raise their profile, build relationships through exclusive networking events, and all while making a real difference to local families.
