This interactive workshop provides an introductory insight into the core elements of HR and employment law, looking at the HR lifecycle.

 

Workshop Summary

 

Understanding and being able to carry out HR responsibilities and duties is a challenge to most line managers. The obligations are vast and ever changing, driven by the desire to lead employees effectively, the need to respond to changes in legislation properly and to manage core employee relation matters consistently. With the recent abolition of tribunal fees, employment claims have risen significantly and an understanding of employment law and HR processes is essential for all businesses, whatever size and industry sector.

This interactive and enjoyable course provides an introductory insight into the core elements of HR and employment law, looking at the HR lifecycle. It draws on real-life scenarios, best practice, employment case law decisions and provides an opportunity for delegates to share their experiences to stimulate learning. It is ideal for owner managers, aspiring people managers, people who have limited experience in managing their HR responsibilities or are looking for a refresher as to their main HR management remit. The course is presented by a specialist employment solicitor, small group activities and discussion.

 

The core elements covered include:

 

  • Common HR pitfalls and danger points
  • Overview of employment law
  • Recruitment and inductions
  • Contracts and policies
  • Performance management including effective appraisals
  • Employee reward and engagement
  • Employee relations (including handling grievance, disciplinary and absence management issues)
  • Round up of forthcoming employment legislation

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Outline the basic legal context underlying employee relations processes to encourage the effective development and application of company policy to promote good practice and avoid penalties
  • Outline key HR practices in accordance with best practice and employment law
  • Analyse and evaluate the merits of core employee relations issues to support effective decision making at an early stage
  • Describe the key stages of disciplinary, capability and grievance procedures to support consistent application in accordance with the ACAS code
  • Reflect on their own organisation’s approach to recruitment and selection, employee reward and employee development to inform improvements and refinements to practices currently in place
  • Identify any particular aspects of HR Management to further research/ improve their own knowledge and confidence in handling, in support of their continuous professional development.

  • Day 1 (31st May) – Virtual 9:30 – 12:30
  • Day 2 (1st June) – Virtual 9:30 – 12:30

 

Each delegate will receive a link to join the virtual workshop.

The workshop will be delivered online and participants will be expected to take part in break out rooms to ensure engagement and be given an opportunity to ask questions and make comments.

The cost per delegate is £150 plus vat to include a workbook and materials.
