Doncaster Sheffield Airport is the UK’s newest purpose built international airport. Doncaster Sheffield Airport is the UK’s newest purpose built international airport. Becoming fully operational in April 2005 on the site of the former RAF Finningley air base, we have one of the UK’s longest runways and the capacity to handle all types of international aviation including charter, scheduled, long haul, freight, general and business aviation. In 2015 we handled over 856,000 passengers and flights to over 40 destinations are currently available through airlines such as TUI (the world’s largest leisure company), Flybe, Thomas Cook, Wizz Air and Aer Lingus Part of Peel Airports, who also own Durham Tees Valley and Liverpool John Lennon airports, we’re continuing to develop further services and increase the range of destinations as we look to become the airport of choice for passengers in the South Yorkshire and Sheffield City Region. In early 2016, phase 1 of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) link road was completed. Officially titled The Great Yorkshire Way, the link road provides a highway to the airport from Junction 3 of the M18, making the airport more accessible from the motorway and reducing journey times, especially for those travelling from Sheffield, Leeds, Rotherham and Barnsley.
